Well where do I begin with this beaut of a wedding? I was so excited when the couple first contacted me as Tunnels Beaches is one of my all time favourite wedding venues which happens to be down in Devon. I love it so much that I actually changed my own wedding arrangements to have our wedding there too! So I was super excited to be heading back down there again with the loveliest of couples, Charlotte and Dave!

They both got ready at their accommodation The Tides, which is a very short walk from the venue. Dave was downstairs and Charlotte upstairs, which made it very easy for me to flitter between them both as and when I needed. It also made for a really lovely and relaxed atmosphere. Everyone together in one house!

The weather was a little gloomy in the morning but it soon brightened up and the colours they chose for the wedding where so happy and fresh, it could have been pouring down with rain and it would still have been a bright and happy day!  Charlotte and the bridesmaids had flowers in their hair, acoustic guitar playing in the day, a gourmet BBQ…. A real good fun, relaxed wedding day! My cuppa tea entirely. =)

Here are their highlights of their special day at Tunnels Beaches ~

Well it’s that time again….. it felt like only yesterday I was looking at my best bits of 2014 and now I’m looking at my best bits of 2015! It’s always a hard task to condense images into one post for just one wedding, let alone for a whole year! I culled and culled and culled…. it does however remind me how lucky I am and honoured that I am invited to capture these special moments in peoples lives, its truly incredible!

Another amazing thing is that ultimately, I love to create. To create art… and the fact that my couples let me do this and appreciate my art…. WOW!

Anyway enough of my gushiness!!! =)

This year I have photographed some amazing weddings, I haven’t managed to get them all blogged yet as its been a busy, busy time for me. I photographed my first Elopement wedding, YAY! Along with other sweet little weddings from back gardens, coffee shops, to a vineyard and then to larger ones like one of my favourite venues, South Farm. To stunning marquees and beautiful barns and I even got to experience my ‘bucket list’ venue for the second time but this time as a main shooter….. Tunnels Beaches in Devon! I love it SOOO much that I am getting married there myself! =)

I hope you enjoy my favourite 2015 moments…. heres to an exciting and even busier 2016! Thank you to EVERYONE who shaped my 2015 and making it such a memorable one for me.

A perfectly low key, intimate Wedding : Sam & Matt

I had the pleasure of photographing Sam an Matt’s wedding a few months ago, it was perfect, it was them and the one thing that really stood out to me was how incredibly happy they both were throughout the day! Sam literally beamed! The weather was questionable, we had sunshine, we had cloud, we had rain and we even had gail force winds! Still, Sam and Matt beamed with happiness, they laughed, they joked, they loved each other and everyone of their guests. They didn’t allow anything to ruin their special day.

They chose to have a church wedding and then onto a little cafe in Berkhamsted called I LOVE FOOD (great name right!?) Here they had a small, intimate dinner with their nearest and dearest. It was a perfectly low key and beautiful wedding day. Looking back at these images makes me feel as warm and fuzzy inside, real emotions, honest moments.

Sam has explained their story and why they both chose what they did….

“My then fiancé, Matt and I had been engaged for 4 years and were coming close to celebrating the 12th year from our first date. We finally got our act together and decided to get married on our anniversary. A mere 8 weeks away! Luckily this date was toward the end of March, not quite in full on wedding season. This meant that we were lucky enough to book what we wanted.

Time was urgent and I immediately phoned the church we wanted. They had availability and we booked it then and there. The same day, I went with my mum to a local wedding dress shop that was having a closing down sale. We went in. I tried on one display dress. This is the dress I wore on my wedding day and I bought it then and there for £300. One hour after booking the church.

Our wedding was on its way!

We wanted very traditional elements to our wedding to honour the ritual and have everyone we love involved, yet also we wanted an intimate and colourful wedding with a less traditional twist. And all of this on an almost non-existent budget by todays standards.

Matt and I decided to completely let go of any of our previous assumptions and expectations of what a wedding “should be” and tried not to get hung up on the little details. We concentrated on the aspects of the day that would be important to us – family, friends, fun, colour and love. Anything that didn’t fit this criteria ultimately didn’t matter.

With a small budget we had to prioritise where we spent the money. Our top spends we agreed to consist of flowers and quality photography to capture our day. The photography was really important to us because after the day is done you wont wear the dress again, the food is eaten and flowers wilt. The memories and photographs last forever!

We always loved the church we got married in, so that decision was a no brainer. The tricky bit was the meal and party. Everywhere we went to that would hire out a room either wanted to inflate prices as soon as we mentioned the “W” word or met us with such apathy that we felt we wouldn’t be looked after. We were stuck and the clock was ticking.

Matt phoned me one day over his lunch work break. He told me that he was sitting in our favourite cafe in Berkhamsted, I Love Food. Matt told me that he had spoken to them, and even though they hadn’t held a wedding there before they would help. Not only that, but when we met with them they were so accommodating and the quality was phenomenal! We only had to pay for the food and alcohol.

To top the night off we continued celebrations at our local pub. We reserved a few tables that took up about half of the space, and at no cost. I will never forget the look on peoples faces as we all turned up in our finery.

Everyone was so lovely and clapped as we walked in.

The day was perfect! Windy… yes. Rainy… yes! But colourful, fun and romantic. Everything we could have ever hoped for. All of our friends reflected that the wedding was “so you” and yet we did not spend a lot of money to achieve this. Neither of us feel like we missed out on anything. I am so glad that we didn’t spend years planning the day…I don’t think I could have handled the stress for that long. And I am glad that it paid off to approach a non traditional venue for our meal. We really did have top quality service for very little cost.

I am also so thankful that we entrusted Lucy with the task of capturing our wedding. We said to Lucy that we were interested in capturing the intimate moments of the day, and the ‘bits in between” the main events. She did this PERFECTLY! She made us feel at ease and she was able to blend into the wedding with ease meaning that we didn’t feel overly aware of being photographed all the time. This produced some stunning shots  which we will cherish until we are old and grey!

If I had any advice for any future bride and groom to be, it would be: Be yourselves, let go of expectations (your own and opinions/demands of others), there is no such thing as ‘perfect’, you don’t need to spend a fortune and invest in the memories!

I am so excited to finally be able to share this gorgeous wedding with you all! To say i absolutely loved this day is an understatement, i feel uttlery honoured to have been asked to capture such an incredibly intimate and stunning elopement London wedding.
I met Em & James in the morning at the Great Northern Hotel in Kings Cross where they were getting ready. We then jumped into a taxi to Islington town Hall for the ceremony, the wedding party was of 5. The bride & Groom, myself and 2 witnesses. After which we took a lovely stroll around the area before they headed back to the hotel to pack and jump on the plane for their holiday!
I’ll leave the rest to the lovely Em….
“We’ve never really had visions of a big elaborate wedding day- we love going to them and totally get the thrill of the celebration, but those of you who really know us will know we’d much rather be white washing walls than spending the equivalent of a house deposit on a dress of the same colour! We’d be holding hands  whilst painting to be romantic of course ☺
So when we found out that we were expecting a baby Hall it was the perfect excuse to take ourselves off to our favourite city in the world and sign on the marriage line in our own, secret way.
And what a secret it was! We’ll never forget the feeling of that Tuesday afternoon when everyone we know was getting on with their daily lives and there we were, in this beautiful city, ‘just us’. It doesn’t get more romantic than that.
We are so pleased we chose Lucy to capture all of the special moments through out the day so it would be possible to share a few of them with you now. She made us feel really relaxed and listened to what style of photo we liked as well as suggesting some great ideas herself. We mostly forgot we were being snapped as we got ready for our ‘big’ day in our hotel room, during the very intimate Islington Town Hall ceremony and then later when we were wondering the streets of Islington as a newly married couple in the warm London sunshine.
Choosing witnesses from passers by on the street was one of the best bits of the day! We are so happy that we happened to pick the couple that we did, as they brought such a positive and warming vibe to the ceremony, and the  start of our married life! (Themselves being married for 30 years!). Thank you Charlie & Kim, wherever you may be!
We hope that you like the photos and they inspire you to take time to make your own special moments with those you love too ❤

James and Em would really love to get in touch with Charlie and Kim, who stepped in as their spontaneous witnesses, to thank them for being involved in their wedding ceremony. It was such a whirlwind, that we didn’t manage to get their contact details. We know they live in Islington, please help us find them through the power of social media!

Pre-wedding shoot ~ Bedford. Lucy Noble PhotographyRachael and Paul are getting married in just under 7 weeks time! Exciting!

For their pre-wedding shoot we headed to the church where they are getting married in Bedford. We had a lovely walk around the area and up a great big hill which proved to be a little slippy seeing as it had rain the previous day, which was slightly amusing for all of us but WOW the views where gorgeous once we had reached the top!

Both Rachael and Paul are heavily involved in the theatre, so it was only right to also have a quick stop at the theatre, TADS to get a couple of fun, dramatic shots. This is where they spend a lot of their time!  I am also led to believe that there might be some exciting details to their wedding day that has been inspired by the theatre too! YAY!

I am very much looking forward to the big day!! x

Steve is Australian, although you wouldn’t know it from talking to him. He does like to wear shorts however all through the year until his knees cannot take the winter cold anymore, he even wants to wear shorts on our wedding day! Which I’m not actually saying is a completely ridiculous idea, as to me this is Steve and after all everybody’s wedding should be about themselves!  Anyway, thats a WHOLE other story!

Steve’s family still live in Australia, near Brisbane. I was lucky enough to meet them all back in 2008 and have 5 incredible weeks out there, where we did a little exploring too. I remember very clearly getting off a 24 hour flight and being greeted by an entourage of family members. Aunties, cousins the lot! It was brilliant, a holiday i shall never forget. 6 years later, we managed to get a flight back out there to see them all again. It was 3 weeks of downtime for a very busy year for both me and Steve. We haven’t been able to go away on holiday for a few years now so this was just what we needed, a shame it didn’t last just that teeny weeny bit longer!

Here is a glimpse into our holiday through the joys of an iPhone…..

Australia , our holidayHuge thanks to Jess for taking this photograph of all of us. Really appreciated by all!

Next time Steve and I will see them all, i will be apart of the Sales family as we are having our honeymoon out there. Where we will hopefully be exploring more of the amazing country, after we have a little party of course with the family!  😉

Faye and Sam married back in July, it was a woodland tipi wedding and one like no other. The amount of work they both invested into making their day so special for them was inspiring! Their reception was in the Wigginton woods where they had cleared a little area with permission from the farmer. Sam had made a TREE HOUSE, no joking aside it was one EPIC tree house, where the band Parka had made up camp for the evening. (You should check these guys out by the way- brilliant!)  I absolutely loved all the little details they so carefully thought about, it literally felt like a secret little gem of goodies in the middle of the woods.

Here are a few images from one incredible wedding…

I recently had a promotional video done, I know … ahhh!! I have been wanting to do one for over a year now and have finally nailed it down with the brilliant Skinny boy weddings. You can check my promotional video here!

When i first thought about it, it was a big dreamy wonderful idea…. as time grew closer, the anxieties started kicking in. What do i wear?  What if they pick up on my chunky arms and double chin? Where shall we do it? Is it going to be crazy to organise everything…. Oh god, I HAVE TO SPEAK!! What if i mess up and so on….

Well i have to admit I was nervous on the day about the speaking part, that we actually had to do about 10 takes! ha-ha. Once we got to the location though, i felt more at ease. The gorgeous Annamaria and Tom where my couple and they kindly agreed to be filmed too. It was actually SO much fun! I loved hanging out with them and also working with Katie & Steve from Skinny boy weddings! … After the shoot it was  then the challenge to finding the right music- never knew that would be so hard!

The experience in general was amazing, and I’m glad that i pushed myself to go through with it, getting out of my comfort zone and trying something new. Hopefully it will give potential couples a little more insight to me and how i work.

Here are just a few more images from the shoot that didn’t get featured in the promo.

The Journey of a wedding as a photographer, business owner and a human being –

*  The initial enquiry landing in my inbox- I will never get tired of this, there is ALWAYS a little squeal of excitement!

*  The first meeting-  I love meeting new people, hearing all their plans and sharing their excitement for their big day but also getting to know them as individuals.

Sharing my knowledge to help with their planning, allowing the day to run as smoothly as possible.

*   The confirmation email that they would like to go ahead with the booking -YIPPEE!!!

*   The pre-wedding shoot- Time to have some fun!!

I love to try out new locations, and push myself to see what I can create.

It’s amazing to meet my couples again in a much more relaxed way. We take a walk, we chat, I shoot them being in love, laughing,  being intimate, silly and natural the list   goes on.

It’s always so interesting to see how couple act with each other and how they are naturally. These are the best shots! Read more on this here.

*    Making friends =D

*    The editing- I am SO impatient when I have a favourite photo- I cannot wait to share it!

*    The wedding day- The challenge, the anticipation, the adrenalin. A wedding day is a very special day. The rush, the laughs and tears, the running about, stopping, watching –   taking a moment to see the moments! Always thinking ahead, looking for locations, watching the weather, smiling, wondering, acting silly …. this is all me by the way! 😉  Crashing at dinner time, refuel, recharge. Second burst of energy , music starts- feeling the buzz, the love. Having a little boogie on the dance floor with the guests.

*    The editing- reliving the moments.

*    Creating lovely branded packaging for my couples, this is SO much fun!! Also giving a few little treats here and there- Feeling good!

*    Finally the response after they have seen their wedding images- NOTHING beats the feeling knowing my couples are happy!

I often get asked when should i booking a Wedding Photographer so I thought I would write about it, along with some key things to think about whilst planning for your big day to give you the best photographs possible!

I will be doing a series of posts like this where I have invited other wedding suppliers to also speak about their process, this will hopefully ease the wedding day planning a little for all you brides and grooms to be.

Booking your wedding photographer

When is the ideal time for couples to get in contact with me?

Firstly every photographer works differently so I will be speaking for myself only.

I already have bookings for summer 2015 so the sooner the better really for those peak summer months but I have in the past also taken on a wedding just 17 days before the wedding day! Yikes! Although this is not ideal for several reasons, you can always ask and you might get lucky! Generally though 10-12 months before your wedding day gives you the best chance for your date to be free.

Does the time of year make a difference to how my service works?

Yes absolutely!  This is something not everyone is aware of at first. Photography is painting with light so if there is no light or too much light for that matter, you’re not going to have great wedding images!

Summer months is great as we have lovely light evenings so often time is more on our side than in the winter but the harsh sun light can often become a problem in the midday sun. You will often find me hunting down some shady areas to take portraits or formals.  I have sometimes seen quests giving me puzzling looks over this! I’m sure nobody would like their photograph taken with squinty eyes and harsh, contrasting shadows. =)

I would always recommend an earlier ceremony in the winter months. In winter, the sunsets at around 3.30pm so if your ceremony is at 2pm, for example, this will only give us approx. 30 minutes to get all those beautiful portraits of the two of you and any formals you would like! Eek!

Yes, I can use flashes or go inside if need be but honestly NOTHING beats natural light for this important section of the day.

The same goes for when you start to plan all your beautiful details for your ceremony and wedding breakfast inside. Candle lit dinners, those magical twinkly lights to set the ambiance, gorgeous right!! BUT if we think back to photography is painting with light, it can be very tricky for your photographer. Yes, we can get those ambient detailed shots and they will look stunning but I recommend that you make sure you have additional lighting also to ensure we can capture those great moments when you enter the room or when the speeches are happening etc.

Also (trying not to get too technical here) the less light there is, the higher the ISO the photographer will need to go, which results in a very grainy looking image. Some photographers love to shoot like this and it is there style and some do look amazing but you will not get a clean, sharp image if there is not enough light, so this would also  be down to your personal preference.

Are there any other key things that couples would need to think about when planning?

Other than what I have mentioned already, talk to your photographer. Keep them in loop with any changes, ideas, concerns. Communication is  valuable and your photographer should know all the ins and outs of a wedding day timeline, they will be able to advise you for what will work and what will not.

I care about my couples and their wedding day, I want to make sure it goes as smoothly as possible  for them so we are on the same side! We need to work as a team and this will result in amazing photographs!

I hope this helps a little and I look forward to sharing with you what other wedding suppliers say.
